CosmoS

Impulsive Art

 Josep Vallés Rovira

Whithin Carme Riera’s space oddisey, the British nobelprize winner S. Hawking remains an influence as he believes that human beings will have to become starbound or perish on this planet.
Her “cosmos” series of paintings are very influenced by Vermeer’s “The Astronomer”. If we examine carefully Vermeer’s painting an entire universo of spheres and planets follow visible and invisible orbits around known and unknown suns.
Those uncharted áreas of outer space trigger a willingness to do visual research which is like- wise an expressive, and sophisticated point, turning the entire project into impulse art!

One of the most important contributions is her use of tinplate and acids towards inserting chromatic effects, She follows the so called poor art by referring to all that has to do with nature and, as regards culture, she knows how to remit to chance and accident following Kandinsky and above all Miró.
She also multiplies sensual and lyric resources, in the tracing of time, the landmarks of nature, the beauty between what is rough and what is delicate. Riera knows how to include all this in a subtle way
